UNAM accepts other recognized school-leaving qualifications based on their merit, which will be evaluated according to the UNAM Evaluation Scale. This article gives you all the prospectus you need to read before starting your academic journey at University of Namibia.

Admission Based on Completion of Qualification at Post-Secondary School Level

Students who have completed qualifications at different levels (level 3, level 4, and level 5) at other tertiary institutions, registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), may be considered for admission into certificate, diploma, and degree programs, respectively.

Mature Age Entry (MAE)

The Mature Age Entry Scheme provides an opportunity for individuals with significant life and work experience to gain admission to UNAM. The UNAM requirements 2024 include:

  1. Being at least 25 years old on the first day of the academic year in which admission is sought.
  2. Successful completion of at least junior secondary education for certificate/diploma programs or senior secondary education for degree programs.
  3. Proof of at least five years of relevant work experience.
  4. Passing the Mature Age Entry Examination with specified papers.
  5. Scoring at least 50% for admission into degree programs and 40% for admission into diploma programs, with no paper less than 40%.
  6. Possible additional interview before final selection.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

For those with extensive work experience, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) provides an avenue for admission. The UNAM requirements 2024 include being at least 25 years old, having proof of five years of relevant work experience, and completing the RPL application process.

Postgraduate Programs

Admission criteria for postgraduate programs vary:

  • Postgraduate Diploma: Requires a bachelor’s degree (NQA level 7) from a recognized institution.
  • Master’s Degree: Requires a bachelor honours degree (NQA level 8) with an overall grade average of 60% (and above) in the chosen field of study.
  • Doctor of Philosophy Degree and other Doctoral Programs: Requires an NQF level 9 Master’s degree or equivalent from UNAM or any other recognized institution in the chosen field of study.
